More than bricks & mortar

James Forrester, managing director of StripeHomes and Barrows & Forrester Property Group reveals life is more about people than property.

Sat in his Birmingham office with a Newcastle United shirt hung on the wall embezzled with StripeHomes number nine across on the back – in honour of NUFC legend Alan Shearer – James Forrester, managing director of StripeHomes and Barrows & Forrester Property Group, tells Downtown about what drives him in life.

“Family, Newcastle United & property are my three biggest passions.”

“I have a wonderful fiancé and two beautiful children, I’m a proud Geordie who drives up to the North East every other weekend in the hope Newcastle will win three points and working in property allows me to enjoy my life.”

James has spent 19 years in the property sector working across the UK and Spain including living and working through the financial crash in 2008.

“I learned a lot about how not to spend, how to invest wisely, who to trust as well as trusting your gut instinct – it definitely made me a more resilient person and business owner.”

Fast forward to now and James is now been in Birmingham with his family for 10 years with two successful businesses, running and being deep rooted within the business and local community.

“We came to Birmingham because we saw it as the land of opportunity. How the region has changed over those years has been phenomenal – it’s certainly one of the best decisions we’ve made.

“Barrows & Forrester is an estate and letting agent covering Birmingham, Lichfield and surrounding areas and 18 months ago I set up StripeHomes – a UK property developer – we’re all about people and relationships over bricks and business.

“It gave me the footing to set up StripeHomes where we have our first development going up at Quayside, Newcastle to provide student accommodation.”

Education and charity are key themes running through our conversation.  Alongside his day to day work, James is also a governor at the Q3 Academy in Oldbury where he is mentoring students.

“I’ll be the first person to admit I didn’t do as well in school as I should have but now I have the opportunity to give back and provide young people with every chance of success.”
